One traineee per year is selected for the one-year training.
The training provides trainees with a unique opportunity to train at one of the busiest cerebrovascular medical centers in Colombia, all of which treat patients with some of the most complex neurovascular conditions.
Samaritana University Hospital
CIEN Endovascular Simulation Center, Vascular Microsurgery Center, and Cervical Carotid Disease Simulator.
The applicant must have an accredited residency in neurological surgery that offers broad exposure to the full spectrum of neurosurgery, diagnostic neuroradiology, as well as intensive care unit experience.
If an applicant has no prior diagnostic neuroradiology experience, the training will include three additional months to be spent in the diagnostic neuroradiology service before the commencement of the endovascular, and vascular microsurgery training including Cervical Carotid Disease.
It is beneficial if the applicant has some level of endovascular, microsurgery, and cerebrovascular experience.
All trainees must complete a 12-month interval during which he/she performs cerebrovascular and neurovascular procedures on a weekly basis.
Typically, four days a week are spent in the endovascular suite, vascular microsurgery room, and the cervical carotid disease simulator. One day is set aside for clinic.
There is a weekly neurovascular conference where new patients are reviewed and follow-up studies on existing patients are discussed with recommendations of treatment/follow-up plans. The neurovascular trainee is involved with the presentation of patients and provides input on decision-making and management.
Throughout the training, the neurovascular trainee is given an increasing amount of supervised procedural responsibilities in the endovascular suite, vascular microsurgery room, and the cervical carotid disease simulator. It is expected that, by the end of the training, the trainee will be ready to run a neurovascular practice with vascular skills.
Interested individuals should submit a letter of intent along with a current Curriculum Vitae (CV) to the CIEN training application center.
Each application will be reviewed in its entirety with an eye toward a combination of overall academic excellence, leadership ability, career development potential, and personal character. Qualified individuals will be invited to interview. No interviews are scheduled without an invitation, and no individual interviews are scheduled outside of these scheduled sessions. Any candidate who is invited to interview must contact the CIEN to confirm acceptance of the invitation.
